1955 Taylor with NO rufugee inlaws on Labor Day 2005

My brother and sister in law are from Covington La. on Lake Ponchartrain just north of NO. They came to our home for Labor Day hamburgers but do not know what has happened to their house, neighbors, etc. They have been stranded here since the hurricane, not knowing the status of their home or friend...

My best port experience was a Clive Coates tasting of the 63's and 66's which included the Nacional in Dallas, circa 1990. Clive is somewhat controversial but what a tasting! -and memory for a then port neophyte. There was Graham's and Taylor's and Dow's and Cockburn's and Nacional at the Fairmount ...

I tell you , my wife is the greatest at opening old ports with cranky corks. We have the tongs and that has worked. We have the Ah-so, etc and those sometimes work. BUT, she takes a heavy knife, a cleaver etc ,and in a quick blow of the backside of the knife against the little ridge at the top of th...

A very good note. I like hearing about the 55's. I recently obtained a 1955 Taylor for a friend's 50th. It was great. I hope to try some older ports in the future. Roy has a lot. I volunteer his place for a tasting. I will bring a bottle of the 55 Taylor. I am sure he will open some of his older Nac...

The Michael Broadbent Great Vintage Books of Wine have great tasting notes about many kinds of wines. He has great notes about many ports and Madeiras that go back for centuries. He has a tasting note from a bottle of 1700 port that he tasted in 1987 that he gave three stars. He autographed my books...

We tasted it blind at our Friday wine group back in May or early June 2005.
No bottle left. I will ask the friend who brought it if he rememebers or if he has any more.

That is an interesting piece of information.

Wherever this came from, it was very good stuff. Whoever was producing it could well have produced it under their own label.

1973 Heitz

Yes, You all thoguht I had had gotten lost on the wrong board, but on another BB I posted notes and request for info/history about a 1973 Heitz Tawny Port with the unmistakable Heitz label. It was appareantly an experiment, maybe done to coincide with a Heitz anniversary. It was a knockout , wonderf...

The 77 Taylor is one of my all time favorite ports. ( I do hope I included it in my top 10 on another thread on this bb!) I drank a bottle with Deryk Fellingham, a dear friend and former Collector of the London Port in HM Customs when he was a house guest of ours here in Fort Worth in the early 90's...

Does it seem a little strange that this topic has 46 replies but over 900 "views"? Is there a little 2003 port voyeurism going on here?

It was not so clear in the 90's but 83 has an edge on 85 for consistancy and a broader good showing of the vintage. 85 was supposed to a blockbuster vintage of the century. Has not worked out that way.

Number one son has a great collection of the 92's including mags and 375's of Taylor ( RP 100) , 750's of Niepoort, and Quinto da Passadouro. Number two son has some Quinto da Vargellas Taylor 1998 and some Graham's Malvedos 1998. Not a declared year but at least some bottles that I believe willl ag...

Roy, Here I am post number one. I needed sometime to register. That can be a hassle sometimes. It went smoothly with no cyberspace scolding about not filling in a mandatory item. All time favorite ports NOT in order of quality: 1977 Ferreira because it was my first vintage port circa 1988 whenI firs...
