Re: NV Quinta da Romaneira 40 Year Old Tawny Port
Haven't done it yet, but love to have the Romaneira and Noval side by side. I sense a tasting in the making. Perhaps at the yet-to-be-organized FTLOP Anniversary tasting in July? I have Romaneira, Kopke, Noval, and Quevedo on hand. An S. Leonardo and maybe a Villar d'Allen or Brunheda to round thin...

Re: 1983 Vintage Port - 30 Year Retrospective
Does anyone happen to know if there is a 1983 Ferreira in addition to their Quinta do Seixo 1983 SQVP? For what it's worth, I saw no evidence of one at all on wine-searcher when I found the Qta. do Seixo. (Actually I did see a couple that purported to be the main Ferreira label, but close inspectio...

Re: 1983 Vintage Port - 30 Year Retrospective
Assuming the other two bookings are not winning the lottery and a night with the Brazilian beach volleyball team I assume you are going to the Port tasting? [cheers.gif] It's looking like the Port tasting will win out, one other event is definitely out of the running, and the third should be able t...

Re: 1983 Vintage Port - 30 Year Retrospective
If you're interested, lemme know your plans and I might be interested in carpooling with the two of you up north and back, potentially meeting someplace you're passing trough anyway (redding perhaps?). Unfortunately, it looks like at this point, we're either flying up, or we'll end up having to can...

Re: TN: Fonseca 1963-Avery-open 3 days
Alex: I think I know the reason for the question now I just got a 70 T shipped by Avery but imported by Corti Brothers(no info on bottling). John Did you get it directly from Corti Brothers? I know Darrell Corti recently released about 5 cases each of T70 and G70 from his cellar that he's had since...

Re: Madeira tasting with Chris Blandy, March 5th, Long Beach CA
I've been in touch with Chris last week several times and although me mentioned hitting CA, he did not even tell me about this tasting. However, I will be heading to the other coast for a different tasting. Bad timing on my part ... but also on his. [shrug.gif] Chris is a great guy and if you all c...

Re: How many bottles for 40 people toast?
We haven't had any problems bringing in glassware and having the restaurant staff pour. YMMV, of course :)

Re: How many bottles for 40 people toast?
I would think 4 would suffice - that's enough for a 2oz pour for 40 people, which should be good for Port newbies.

Re: Do you belong to a Port or wine tasting group?
We have a core group of 6 or so that meet infrequently - we've had Port at every meeting so far though! Granted, there have been only 2 meetings to date, but we're working on getting a 3rd meeting put together some time soon (20 year tawnies will be the theme). On the other subject that seems to hav...

I've definitely seen less around Northern CA - and lesser bottles when I do see any. The last place i encountered a decent bottle of Port (Taylor 30yo tawny) in a restaurant was in Baltimore last April.

Re: 1983 Vintage Port - 30 Year Retrospective
Well, Phyllis and I willl either drive up or we'll be renting a car, so we could take a couple with us. Maybe we can get it done with simple car pooling - seems like we should be able to get everyone moved in 4 cars or so. Of course there is the matter of the 20% ABV wine we'll be tasting that could...

Yeah, I figured - hotels generally don't let you bring in outisde food if they have any dining services on site. One can dream though!Roy Hersh wrote:Carl,
I'd love to make that happen, but as Glenn and I learned last year, they no longer permit outside food to be brought in anymore.

Re: A bottle of Scion is up at auction
Brand new, still-in-the-original-packing bottles of Scion are regularly available on Wine-searcher for $2900 - $3900, including several right now, so I wouldn't expect this at auction to get much over $2900.

Re: 1983 Vintage Port - 30 Year Retrospective
Forgot to comment on this part - I think that'd be awesome! It might mean we leave home a day earlier to be ready to drink port earlier on Saturday - but that's a small sacrifice to make.Roy Hersh wrote:OK, so what do you think of this idea...?
