We had a White Port tasting last week. My contributions were bottles of Poças 10YO White and Quinta do Manoella 10YO White.
The Poças was fine. The Manoella was superb.

Re: The Best Port you've opened or tasted during 2021
I’m a bit late to the thread, but it’s taken me a while to catch up with my tasting notes.
My three standout Ports from 2021 were the Niepoort 1931 Garrafeira (the same bottle Andy mentioned above; it was superb), a Niepoort VV (1960s bottling) and a Cockburn 1969 Single Harvest Tawny.

Messias 10YO tawny, reliable and solid but not exciting.
Dow 1983 VP, dark cherries and black chocolate. Delicious.

Re: 1991 vintage port
Certainly one producer can make a standout wine in a year in which others don't. But the fact that 1991/2 was a split declaration I think hints that these aren't going to be the greatest wines out there. I think the 1992 Taylor's/Fonseca are fantastic wines but they aren't talked about much these d...

Re: What have you opened this week?
I reckon the 2011 will be delicious right now with another 5-10 years before it hits its peak. The 2017 was very nice, full of primary fruit, but drinking it last week was infanticide.Mike J. W. wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 5:07 pm How was the Pocas 2017 LBV? I just picked up a few of their 2011 LBV.

Re: Looking for once in a lifetime tastings in Portugal
Thanks so much everyone. We are customizing a tour of the Douro Valley, and I have no concept of how good a proposal this is. Many of the Douro Valley tours include a boat ride, and this one does not. Is that a loss? Anyone here want to review these locations (good views?) and port houses? - wine t...

Vieira de Sousa 1981 LBV - an odd bottle I bought a few years ago and meant to open last year but COVID got in the way. Opened with tongs for some friends round for a barbecue so they could compare it with a Poças 2017 LBV.
Not bad, but I’m not looking to replace it.

Re: What have you opened this week?
1937 Quinta do Noval Colheita, bottled 1997 I've had this for quite a few years... possibly 10?... and was really wondering how it would taste with so much bottle age. The answer was: fantastic! There was no sign of bottle age in the glass (I decanted it for 2 hours, then it took us another 2.5 hou...

Dalva 2007 while colheita, bottled 2017. I bought this in VNdG a couple of years ago out of curiosity. I love white port and had never tried this one. I’m glad I’ve tried it, but I don’t intend to hunt down more bottles of it.

ACC0BDF6-4A99-45E1-AF53-522C42EE551B.jpeg I opened this bottle last night. Bottled unfiltered in 2008 and had deposited a small amount of very fine sediment. It was my only bottle and now I’ve opened it I’ve realised I should have kept it to open alongside and compare with a Fonseca 2003 VP. Oh well.

Re: Tawny’s True Age Under Fire
We are all ignoring the fact that the regulations in force when Portugal joined the EU might have been grandfathered in as part of the conditions of joining. In which case the conflict was recognised at the time and deemed acceptable. So then it becomes a matter of consumer choice. If customers are ...

Re: Basic Portugal recommendations
You probably won’t get glorious sunshine on the beaches in March but it’s worth considering a trip to see the surfers at Nazaré. If the weather conditions are right, surf can hit 100’ swells.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
I've just received a box of 6 Lamelas 10YO White (bottled 2021), 4 Quinta da Prelada 10YO White (bottled 2020) and 2 Quinta da Prelada 30YO White (bottled 2018).
I preferred the 30YO from Prelada to the 40YO Eric loved. I'm so glad different people have different tastes!
