2003 Quevedo LBV

Pop and pour with a dinner of grilled lamb, a cheese course of Organzola and Wensleydale with cranberry, and a molten chocolate cake topped with a few raspberries for dessert. I didn't take notes during all that time; so my impressions from a few hours ago will have to do.

Color was dark, probably a garnet purple. First aromas were of dried leaf spice, but neither eucalyptus nor bay leaf. It was more subtle than that. No strong alcohol aroma. In the mouth, the aromas continued into a grape stem flavor. With a little time, more jammy and grape. A little thin on the body and not too complex. Later some red berry and possibly plum showed up, and the body improved. It became quite nice. I thought maybe some raspberry showed up, but I might have been biased by the food. Not a long finish, but not clipped either.

A really good LBV, and probably an even better value (if I could remember what I paid). When the body was thin, it was in the 88-90 range, but it finished at 91. I wonder if I had given it a little more time it could have done even better. There isn't much left to test this theory, but I'll try to add to this note soon.

I'm curious what you think of this after some decanting time. So do let us how the rest showed.

And my Quevedo order has finally shipped, so hopefully I should see it soon....can't wait!

It showed as well the next night as it finished the first, but I didn't really study it then. I can't really say it was better, but it certainly had nice body and wasn't thin like when I first opened it.
