1977 Taylor's Vintage Port

Post by Celia C »

The big problem with the 77 Taylor's is that whenever I taste it, I want to throw away half of the ports in my cellar because they all seem crap by comparison. It's that good. I picked up a few bottles recently in the mixed box of 77s - like the 77 Graham's, this was the worst bottle and needed to be opened sooner rather than later.

The cork was visibly weeping and the fill was at the top of the shoulder. I decanted it at 6am and we drank it at 8pm. It opened gloriously - deep red colour from the get-go and drinking well at 6am (I know, it's tragic if I'm tasting port at 6am, please don't tell my mother). By 8pm it was divine, amazing nose and rich, full palate with sweet dark fruits and a hint of licorice. Luxurious and regal. The colour was astounding, the port glowed in the glass like a red ruby. 96 points
