1974 Kopke colheita port

Post by Paul Fountain »

There are very few options from 1974 - I've only ever seen this one and the Quinta do Noval, although I am aware of one more that is still in barrel and I am sure there are more tucked away.
I took this to a restaurant and it was opened on arrival and had about 2 1/2 hours in the decanter before we drank it.
It is on the lighter side of the spectrum and showed quite orange in the glass. The aroma was quite complex - almond, caramel, black tea, orange and orange peel.
The taste was a little less so, but quite bright with some acidity that was prominent but not overbearing. The citrus notes most definitely carried through to the palate as well with some pleasant burnt orange flavours coming through. 92 points
