Purchased from Trader Joe's in Lee's Summit, Missouri, and opened for Thanksgiving dinner along with a 1977 and a 2011.
1994 Quarles Harris VP
Color: Medium dark purple. Still looks very young. Nearly opaque center.
Nose: A bit reticent. Purple and black fruits with an almost flowery overtone provided by the spirit. It smells very dark and mysterious.
Palate: Closed and not very expressive. Feels like it hasn't come out of it's "teenage" years yet. Some nice purple and black fruit, some cocoa, and a faint hint of jam. Good structure, but not on par with the great Ports from 1994.
Finish: Smooth and creamy. Very mellow. Good length, though not great.
Score: 90 points. A very nice Port and a bargain (when you can find it) at Trader Joe's for $40. I cleared out the store in Lee's Summit (5 bottles) because the one here in Issaquah claims that they can't get the 1994 anymore.
