2011 Quarles Harris Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Purchased from Trader Joe's in Lee's Summit, Missouri, and opened for Thanksgiving dinner along with a 1977 and a 1994.

2011 Quarles Harris VP

Color: Intense dark purple. Fully opaque and dense.

Nose: Boisterously fruity. Fills the room with the aroma of fresh, young Port.

Palate: "Adult grape juice" was one description given. Juicy and sweet with wave after wave of lush purple and black fruits. Blueberries and blackberries in particular. There's a very slight edge to it that tells me that it's probably starting to turn toward aging, but there's probably at least a couple years left before it goes dormant. Good acidity behind all of the fruit.

Finish: Very long and very juicy. Fades evenly.

Score: 93 points. Trader Joe's must have a great relationship with the Symingtons, because this isn't your average BOB (though that's effectively what it is, since as far as I know Quarles Harris isn't available through any other outlet). An excellent Port that will easily last 30 years before hitting its peak.

I'm still scratching my head wondering why SFE chose to produce this and not the Gould Campbell. :beat:

Or Martinez. Sounds like I need to hit up Trader Joe's. Do you recall the price Glenn?

Thanks. I may head down to the one TJ wine store in Colorado some time soon. I must say that store locator part of their website is very poorly implemented.
