1977 Dows VP. Silver Jubilee. Decant 2 Hours. Clear Red Brick Brown. Aromas of sweet grape, light cherry and just a hint of musty (decanted for only two hours to avoid any cork taint); quite aromatic. Balanced start with white pepper, strawberry, touch of floral/plums and licorice. The finish is clipped and strong alcohol--the only flaw. Group avg 91.0 pts.

Re: 1977 Dow Vintage Port
This sounds very much likely a corked bottle consumed in the nick of time before it got even mustier. The clipped finish also speaks to TCA. Normally, best bottles don't show this way. Of course, many here have had similar issues with this Port being corked.

Thanks for confirming---considering the past history on these issues I did an "83 Cockburn" on this as you had suggested for that one a few months ago....

Re: 1977 Dow Vintage Port
I opened one of these last Friday night and it smelled beautiful when I decanted it. Hours later when we went to drink it .... corked. I opened another and we had it in a pop and pour scenario. It was quite good and although still disappointed by the first bottle, this one showed quite well.
