1991 Dona Matilde Colheita Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Bottled by J.H. Andresen in 2009. Lots of butterscotch and a little bit of toffee on the nose. A very sweet palate of toffee, dried nuts, lots of caramel, and some light acidity. Consumed over several hours with no noticable change. A nice easy drinking Colheita.

I opened a 375 of this in 2014 and it was quite developed for a 1991 Colheita. Not great, but certainly a fun little quaffer.

My only real complaint would be a lack of acidity. If it had more it would really help out the overall experience and from keeping from being so sweet. Otherwise I'm there with you.

Just opened a 375 as well. Nice tipple when you just want something after a meal.

I like these a lot, but I totally get what you guys are saying about it needing a touch more acidity. For most of you I suspect that's probably correct, but for me it hits that perfect spot where the acidity is just sufficient to balance/smooth everything out but not so prominent that it makes the Port too tart.

As Andy put it, it's a nice easy drinking Colheita. I also agree with Roy that it's quite developed for a 1991 Colheita, but in a tawny is that really a bad thing?
