1997 Niepoort Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

From a .375ml bottle decanted 8 hours. From initial decant this had noticeable V.A. on the nose. The palate's plum fruit did its best to cover the V.A. but it was still there and slightly marred that lovely fruit. Big dusty tannins and lots of acidity help to balance the fruit and the V.A. as well. While this was still enjoyable, the V.A. issues do detracted a bit. As this vintage is known to have V.A. issues I'd recommend drinking these sooner rather than later, as the young fruit is still offsetting the V.A. Though that won't be the case once the young fruit start to mature. A shame because if this didn't have the V.A. issue it would be one of the top of the vintage.
