NV S. Leonardo 40 Year Old Tawny Port

Post by Glenn E. »

S. Leonardo 40-yr Old Tawny Port
bottled 2011

Color: Medium tawny, which seems light for a 40-yr old. There's an orange/tan tint to it as well.

Nose: Very creamy. Faint cream cheese frosting. Soft candied apricots. Candied lemon peel.

Palate: Very creamy texture. Very mellow and full in the mouth. Perfectly balanced acidity. Lots of cinnamon and cardamom. Breezy... light... almost effervescent (but no bubbles, just an impression). An amazing Port.

Score: 96 points. The S. Leonardo style seems to suit my palate perfectly, though it might not suit everyone. Everything coexists harmoniously. This is an outstanding Port and you would be hard pressed to find a better 40-yr old anywhere.
