NV Quinta do Estanho 20 year tawny port

Post by Rune EG »

Bottled 2014. Decanted 3.5 hrs. Medium dark brown colour but still with a clear touch of red. Aroma full of nuts and orange/grapefruit peel. Full body. Very elegant at the start, then the power is hitting full of spices, oak and rough tannins, and significant bitterness towards the end. Medium length aftertaste. We left 1/3 of the bottle in an open decanter overnight to see if it could mellow, but 24 hrs later it had only moved marginally. 88 pts.

Other than the rough tannins and bitterness, it sounds really good. Where did you find Quinta do Estanho? I don't think I've seen that producer before.

Had heard about it some years ago, but never seen any bottles before this one.
Found it at an importer in Denmark http://www.drikportvin.dk.
I was looking for the Danish Bulas-importer, which he is, and then we have purchased test bottles from Estanho and Devesa (tasting notes already posted), and also DR and Vieira de Sousa.
Will send in more tasting notes as we have tasted the others we purchased.
