1985 Dow Vintage Port

Post by John Danza »

  • 1985 Dow Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (3/14/2015)
Double decanted about six hours before service. Dark red with little browning. The sweetness jumps out at you, but there's good acidity as well to balance it. There's little alcohol heat due to the decanting time. I didn't pick up that distinctive Dow dry finish that normally comes with Dow ports. Going strong at 30 years of age. No reason to believe it can't make another 30. (93 pts.)

A wonderful VP and one of the better 1985's. Thanks for the note.

I have had good and average experiences with this wine. However, when you find a good one it is very good! :-)
Nice to see that this came through Copenhagen. My first import from Europe also did. That brings back memories!
