1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

Post by John M. »

Traveling so before leaving home I double decanted and then stoppered the bottle the day before. Then open about 5.5 hours before drinking. Lovely rich purple with a magenta rim---looks youthful, lush and vibrant still and just hints of being aged. Aromas of bing cherries with a slight floral note--violets....a little bramble. This one is so inviting so far and the first tastes do not dissapoint--more dark cherries, a touch of grape stem and the floral note remains. There is a deep, sensuous mouthfeel and while a robust port, there is subtly here as well with little nuances of flavors...cherry, a chocolate feel, dark wild berries, dry brambles. I love that contrast of a bruiser yet showing delicacy. As great as this is, it clearly can stand to age much longer. This should be on anyone's top ten list of ports to buy now for their cellar.
