I was asked to be a guest lecturer at California Polytechnic University Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) Collins College of Hospitality Management for their Advanced Wine class, teaching about Portuguese wines and Ports. The students get to taste the wines and pair them with food as well. This was among the wines and Port discussed and tasted today.
Still a youthful dark ruby with no bricking. Vibrant plums and licorice nose. The plums on the palate start out soft and velvety then quickly change as the tannins and bracing acidity starts to kick in. Some licorice is starting to show up. This is just starting to morph into the next phase, as it is just now starting to shed some of that youthful baby fat. The long dusty finish brings forth some menthol as well. A wonderful VP that has a long life ahead of it. I've not had this in a long time and it was a real treat to try.
