NV Quinta do Portal 40 Year Old Tawny Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Tasted blind. Bottled 2010. Totally crystal clear, with an orange-red hue. Aromas of honey and apricots, and almost a botrytis Sauternes smell; then honey and saffron. There is some wood and sawdust, more apricot, and peach too. Finally, it seems slightly yeasty and sugary. The mouth matches the aroma. This doesn’t takes like a Sauternes, but it doesn’t taste like a 40 year old tawny either. There is some vanilla cream flavor too. Fairly thin in the mouth keeps this from scoring more, but all those aromas did make for an enjoyable experience. 90 points.
