1985 Quarles Harris VP

Post by Bradley Bogdan »

Initial Decant: 1 Hour, cork with mild striping but in otherwise beautiful shape. Bottle was original release (not recent Trader Joes release) and had been purchased on release by the restaurant owner, who eventually added it to the wine list at a very attractive price some time ago (improperly listed under Washington dessert wines, haha).

Color: medium dark, still reasonably opaque, some bricking setting in on the edges. A very appropriate and strong color for a 30y/o VP.

Nose: strongly smells of red fruits, especially strawberry, with some mild heat/spice and just a hint of VA.

Palate: Strongly fruity, with a mix of fresh strawberries and bing cherries, accompanied by an almost Taylor-esque note of cinnamon spice in the middle and close. Not tremendously complex, but excellent mouthfeel with the almost fully resolved tannins and nice balance. Probably as good as this wine gets, which is very serviceable indeed. Still shows similarly and well on day 2.
