2006 Gilberts LBV

Post by John M. »

500ml bottle. Says nothing about being filtered, yet back says it may throw off a deposit so I decanted. Basic young LBV color, red fruit nose. Tastes rather simple and thin--a little brassy. Decent fruit, but not much evolution. Finish is abrupt. On the 2nd day much the same although the edges were smoothed out and the finish better. By day three, this was falling apart and was noticeably worse, quite sharp. Score reflects peak on Day 2.

they have a website: http://www.gilberts.pt

Not my kind of website, nor my idea of a port bottle. And I see that their chief awards have been in advertising. Hmmm..........

Is there a bottling year on the bottle? They say that the LBV is bottled between the 4th and 6th year.

There is nothing on the bottle to designate bottling date--seems odd to me.
