1994 Quinta do Crasto LBV unfiltered

Post by Edward J »

I had good hopes for this wine, it was very dark as I decanted. I caught a whiff of something funky and noted the super tight mushroomed cork that had just 1/4 inch of saturation. After one hour it was served and something was not right. I could taste rich figs and currants but with old gym socks? It was unmistakable, corked. I have one more, but I'm saving it for a side by side with the regular '94 VP bottling.

Major bummer, this is a really nice LBV.

Agreed, having just been to Quinta do Crasto 2x in the past 10 days, we tasted a slew of their LBVs. I own 1996 and a handful of more recent vintages. They are typically very solid LBVs, so I am sorry to hear of your corked bottle. The 1994 Vintage Port is one of their best.
