1997 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

This was served blind, and I didn't record tasting notes. I guessed it was a 1994 or 1997 Vintage Port. And I said I hoped it wasn't a Nacional, because I wasn't as enamoured or as impressed as I would expect to be for one of those. 94 points. It was revealed to be 1997 Nacional. It was further revealed that this was decanted just shortly before our tasting, an hour or two or so. It continued to open up and improve during our meal. This suggests more time in the bottle and/or a longer decant would probably give a higher score.

Was this a 1994 or 1997? You mention both.

I actually think the 97 is drinking better right now than the 94. Maybe in a few years, it'll be the other way round.
