1985 Warre vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

6 hrs decanting. Deep dark red colour. Pleasant complex aroma of dark berries with sweet tones, spices, herbs and figs, Medium to full body. Well balanced taste of fruit, figs, oak and plenty of minerals. On the dry side towards the end. 92 pts.

I bought a handful of bottles of this port a few years ago and couldn't resist opening one of them soon after. It was pretty much as you described, still fairly dark in colour, the nose requiring coaxing but with dark understated fruit, a balanced port with structure and a dry, lingering, tannic finish. It was good, but I felt it still needed time.

Rune, I am full agreement with your assessment and am typically within a point of your rating. However, I don't recall noticing any signs of oak poking through. Will have to try one again soon.
