1994 Warre LBV port

Post by Rune EG »

2nd bottle of two which was much better than the first (posted March 2012 at 88 pts).
Decanted 4 hrs. Unfiltered and had some sediments. Deep dark purple colour. Heavy aroma of berries, old cellar, some raisins, oak and spices. Full body. Quite fresh in spite of being a 22 years old LBV. Super elegant at start with some power. Taste showing fruit, oak and tannins, all in a very nice harmony. Distinct towards the end. Long aftertaste. Tiny touch of liquorice at the very end. Would like to buy more if I can find it. Considered one more but ended at 94 pts.

Like the great Vintage Ports produced from this year, 1994 had a remarkably consistent set of fabulous LBVs too. From Crasto, to Pocas, to Noval and now this note. In other words, if you see 1994 LBVs that are reasonably priced, it probably would be a good idea to buy them.

Thanks for the note Rune!
