1994 Dow's Vintage Port

Post by John Sel »

Dark red, blackish at the core with slight paleness at the rim where there is red with no hint of tawny. On opening, persistent dark plum on the nose. Beautifully pure and composed on the palate, intense with a liqueur quality, but no trace of heaviness. After 22 hours, showing some spice over the dark fruit on the nose and some complex top notes, including a hint of eucalyptus. Gently ethereal. Flavour on the palate has broadened out, with a tingle of acidity on the tongue and lingering tannins on the finish. Not a massive wine, but very harmonious and balanced, showing the characteristic Dow dryness. A lovely example of early middle age which promises well for the future. 95+ points.
