2003 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by David Spriggs »

From a half bottle. Popped and corked the night before. Quite a dark color. Not opaque any more, but still looks extremely youthful. Roasted cherry, blackberry, and coffee nose. The entry is full bodied and delicious. The mid-palate is surprisingly pliant and accessible - luscious. However, soon enough the tannins come in and ruin the fun. Extremely long citrus and cocoa finish. This is still quite young. Really incredible fruit and structure. Top tier VP. It's just too young to open right now. A very exciting wine. I am expecting the the luxurious fruit that I get in the begging will meld with that great acid and very fine tannins so that the whole is a more amazing experience in the future. Still I'm very impressed. Love this wine and will open my next one in 5 years or so. My guess is that the right time to open this will be starting in 2025 or so. 94+ points
