From pop 'n pour through day 1, this VP smelled of hard red candies (like Jolly Ranchers), cassis, cinnamon, black cherry. After day 1, anise and pecan notes also joined the nose. The palate was primarily blueberries, blackberries, cognac, and applebutter. This finished with acidity noticeably higher on the sides of the tongue and building with time. Tannins come on very late and there is a faint aftertaste of coco powder. 91 points.
*I was really looking forward to opening this after enjoying the 94 Boa Vista VP earlier this month. While the '94 started good and got continually better as the days went by, this '85 was best on day 1 and 2 and seemed to fall off a bit afterward never equaling the overall enjoyment of the '94.
