NV Quinta do Portal "6 Barrels" Tawny Reserve Port

Post by dave berg »

About $25 at a small wine store on Cole in Enumclaw, Wa The label says this is a blend of their 6 best barrels. It's not too heavy and very woody. Reddish maple syrup color. Marvelous woody dark fruity nose, maybe a bit of heavy fermenting citrus, and cherry-almond. This tastes maybe like fig, blackberry, maybe currant, and a nice slight bright cherry overtone. I think I like the term maple here too. If it sounds a lot like my description of the Cockburn's 10 year, I'd say yes, these two are a lot alike, this being less woody. I'd highly recommend this too.

Great find! I've never seen one of these... could you post a picture? I'd love to see what the bottle looks like.

Thanks for the note, I've not seen this for sale in my parts yet either, though I've seen pics of it before. Glad to know it's a good QPR and when I run across it I'll get some.

Ditto on the picture. I'd love to look for it if it makes it to Texas.

Nice TN David. I hope you are well and I am sure you are not missing the Puy! [foilhat.gif] I will be seeing Claudia and Rod this weekend and will be opening a nice 30 year old Port for them.

I unfortuneatly do not have a camera or computer, but I'll look at it when I get home and try & write a description. If you go to the Wine Searcher it shows a picture, but I'll look at mine and be sure it's the same.

Hi Roy--lucky Claudia and Rod, and they deserve that. You are right-my attitude has done a 180 and I don't miss the fair at all. Thought maybe I'd go back in a year or two--but just feel I'm really weary of all those long nights and wouldn't enjoy it at all, in spite of the great crew in 2015.

I looked at my bottle, and if when on my post for '6 Barrrels' you hit the 'Wine Searcher' button, the bottle you see is the same.

Thanks for contributing--you may notice in my adjacent post for Cockburn's 10 year, I referred to a post of yours from years before, with quite a different judgement of Cockburn's 10 year than mine. Just odd I can find something unusual in some little wine shop in Enumclaw, Wa.
