Roy and flying . . .

Post by Luc Gauthier »

Roy , have you ever thought of writting a screenplay and sending it to Steven Spielberg ?
An appropriate title : " The horrors of flight connections , by a Port officionado "
Too funny !!
Maybe on your next flight you can bring some PB so you and your luggage will be as one . . .

But at least this last time he and his luggage finally all made it

Roy,
smart move on having a carry on with some clothes in it just in case...although the Raiders may not be happy with the loss of advertising

Hey, my luggage arrived the night before departing for the Douro. Fortunately, I had clean clothing etc. throughout, although carrying the extra stuff was a pita.

On the way home from Madeira-Lisbon-Newark, my bags all arrived intact and on time ... along with me.

With this last flight, my odds are vastly improving (from a statistical standpoint). 8--)

I have not done a ton of flying and particularly a lot of business traveling... however, I have started to do enough flying (defined as more than my wife can rationally handle but still around 2-3 business trips a year) and have run into enough problems that this is something that I now do as automatic. Typically, I travel the day before I really need to be there (Sunday flights are standard with me for my Mon-Fri workshops.) I have learned that traveling either in jeans with a presentable set of clothes in the carry-on <or> in your work clothing, is essential. Eventually you will get luggage delayed, etc. I do admire the "travel pros" and try to take tips from them - one good friend of mine has his "luggage" (if you can call it that) down to a science - he travels with his work clothes on his body with ONE change in a carryon. Although I have not gotten my own wardrobe down to one piece of carry-on, I am trying to get there... with the exception of the suitcase that will always follow me... I need SOME place to store the Port in when I ship it back home!!! :D

Todd,

You only need to start worrying when your wife thinks that 2 to 3 trips per year are not enough

From June to December last year I spent 4 to 5 days per week away from home on business and half of every weekend with my son in Edinburgh. I was staying at home on average 1 to 2 nights per week for 6 months. It has taken the past 5 months to persuade Jo that I do actually live in "her" house :help: :snooty:

Andy, Roy, Todd and Luc,

Thanks for all your kind words. If any of them come true I will be sure to turn up at your door on the west coast of the USA or in Canada/Quebec with a sleeping bag and a cork screw

Derek, you would not survive a full year in Canada... and it has nothing to do with the cold weather that we get and Roy loves so! You would retreat within a shell of shock and dismay as you realize the availability of AGED VP is dismal, the prices are horrendous, and furthermore, there is nothing you can do about it for 6 months of the year! ;)

Roy, Andy, guess you'll have to house Mr Turnbull, cuz he won't wanna live HERE!

IF/WHEN we ever see our good friend Derek on American soil, I'll arrange a marching band and break out enough Port that even Mr. T himself will need a vacation from Port drinking for at least a few days.

For those keeping track, I just had four, YES ... four ... uneventful flights without a single delay or any lost baggage. I am not afraid of jinxing myself, because ... well, you understand. :snooty:

Please arrange the marching band and decanter of port to be waiting at Dulles International at around 2pm on 24th July :salute:

Jo, the kids and I are on our way to the Good Old USA in 4 weeks time for a couple of days in your nation's capital followed by a week in Virginia. I have been warned that if any surprise port tastings happen during the 10 days we are there I will be 2 stones lighter (if you know what I mean) by the time I get home  :Naughty:

Congratulations on all that uneventfull flying Roy

Roy,
Miracles do happen

Derek,
I may just have to have some military pilot friends of mine "escort" your plane to Los Angeles...for security reasons of course
