YOUR musical taste and favorite group(s)

Post by Roy Hersh »

"It's only rock 'n roll but I like it." A famous lyric by the Rolling Stones.

Personally I love rock and roll, but will also listen to classical, country, Fado, jazz and others.

What style of music do you listen to or like most?

Do you have a few favorites either composers or musical groups?
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

I think most people wouldn't guess it by looking at me but I like most forms of metal. Some of my favorite bands are At the Gates, Metallica, Bolt Thrower, Iced Earth, The Misfits, Anathema, and Opeth.

The other kind of music I really enjoy is Jazz. Favorite artists are Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, and Thelonious Monk.

I suppose the Jazz pairs better with Port but it really just depends on my mood.

Kris I'm into Metal as well, and I'm a hardcore fan having meet many of my fav bands and taking pictures at some of their shows.

Seing what you quote you must look into groups like Nightwish, Avantasia, Edguy and Therion. These are stunners !!!

I do listen to some Fado and Classical music from time to time but nothing beets Mr Crowley!!!

My taste in music is fairly broad also, but I do have a special place in my heart for metal, hard rock, and hair bands. Metallica, Motley Crue, Kiss, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Van Halen are some of my faves.

If I had to pick one group to call my favorite, though, it would probably be Queen.

Or maybe Styx. Oohh... or CCR.

Hmm... or maybe Billy Joel.

I can't decide.

Wow...some metal fans eh ? Nice ! Some of my fav. bands: Slayer, Metallica, AC/DC, G&R, Dead Kennedy's, Iron Maiden. But i also listen to Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Toby Keith, John Denver and U2.

The only 2 types of music i DON'T like are jazz and R&B.

Frederick, I do have some of Therions "newer" albums, Theli and Vovin. I need to check out some of their older stuff and see what they've been up to recently. I'll keep a lookout for the others you mentioned.

Roy, this is a good topic as I suspect most everyone on this website including myself, are just as passionate about their music as they are their Port. My musical preference is for "progressive rock", but I also enjoy "classic country", "vintage American" and jazz fusion. Just like with Port, some of my musical preferences are seasonal.

Here are my tops (*currently involved):

Genesis (with Peter Gabriel)
Genesis (without Peter Gabriel)
Genesis (all solo material from: Phil, Tony, Mike, Steve, Ant, Peter, Daryl)
YES
YES (all solo material from Jon, Steve, Chris, Rick, and Bill Bruford)
*The Grateful Dead
*Jerry Garcia Band
*Willie Nelson
Paul McCartney (with and without Wings)
Spock's Beard
Transatlantic
Neil Morse
Tony Levin
The Who
Pete Townsend
Queen
Brand X
*ASIA
Rush
Tears for Fears

Best regards,
