Instant Messaging

Post by Derek T. »

Stuart,

I'm not sure how these things work but is it feasible to have some sort of instant messaging function set-up on the site?

I've been having a chat with Andy tonight using PM's but it's not easy to get a flow in the conversation like when using an IM tool.

Just a thought

STEWART may have a better suggestion, but mine is for everyone to download SKYPE at http://www.skype.com which will not only allow you to chat live time, but speak to one another over a headset on your puter, for FREE :twocents: ... even from the US to the UK and Portugal too! It is fantastic. :type: Imagine if we all had it? :scholar:

But if we could all talk to each other we would have to stop pretending that we were living in some sort of virtual world where all that exists is VP and a keyboard

If we were all talking on Skype we wouldn't be able to hit 10,000 posts by the end of the year!!! :)

Seriously, IM is something that I've been looking at. I'll see if I can find anything that will work reliably for the new website platform.

Skype is, in fact, an excellent tool for verbal conversations.

Another option is existing IM tools like MSN Messenger, AOL Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc. If you have multiple messengers like me, and/or want to talk to friends and Port-a-holics who might have different messenger applications, there is one excellent tool that will allow you to access all of your messenger tools in one application is called Trillian.

On a side note - you CAN add your messenger id in your user profile.
