TN: 2008 Quinta do Noval Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

One bottle purchased at Porto airport Oct 2011. 3.5 hrs decanting. Dark red with a light rim and hint of brown. Deep typical Douro-aroma berries, oak and some flowers. Full body. Nice tannins. Quite rough and a bit dry in the initial stage of tasting, then wood appearing, and towards the end som sweetness. Very unusual to have such combination during 10 seconds! I found it a bit unstructured. Long aftertaste. Although my wife liked it better than me, my score is 86 pts.

I've basically stopped buying at that airport. They leave the bottles under some really hot lights and I've picked up a few bottles which were warm to the touch.

I did buy some 20 yo Setubal at the Porto Airport which drank fine. They were on a central display and I'm guessing they weren't there too long.
