TN: 2010 Quinta do Vallado Sousao Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted 3 hrs. Medium to dark red colour with a distinct purple influence. Subdued aroma of berries and minerals. Medium body. Smooth texture of limited berries and significant soil with a hint of gooseberry (new combination for me!), a bit dry, nice tannins. In spite of this the wine is lacking “personality”. A rather unique red wine that during tasting and dinner moved between low 90s and mid 80s. Would be interesting to hear other reviews of this wine. At the end 88 pts.

I have to find my notes, but I've had a new vintage (can't recall witch) and an older vintage of this. One was really tasty and one I recall was lacking...I'll dig through my notes and get back to you.

During the 2010 FTLOP Harvest Tour we visted Valladao as our last quinta on the tour.
There we tasted 2003 Vallado Sousao Douro red, and most people liked it a lot. I gave 92 pts at the time.
Maybe the 2010 will improve with more cellar time?
