Top 100 "Best Buy" Wines - 10 Portuguese

Below is a link to Wines Of Portugal, which in turn links to the Wine Enthusiast list. The criteria is under $15.00 price tag:

Here is a quick regional break-down:

- Vinho Verde (1 wine),
- Tejo wine region (4 wines),
- Alentejo (2 wines),
- Bairrada (1 wine),
- Peninsula de Setúbal (1 wine) and
- Douro (1 wine).

As to the others, number 86 on the list Herdade do Esporão is something that I have had. I just looked up the other wines at the Wine Library and (near me) Bayway Liquors, which both have over 120 Portuguese wines (including port), and none of these wines are in their stock. Typical...

Yes, of course the Aveleda is well known. The Ponte VV is historic in our parts. Herdade do Esporão is quite popular in our market. We get their olive oils as well which are terrific and well priced.

Portugal was the 3rd country with the most wines featured (after the US and France).

What other country can you buy ex-cellar bottles of 2000 vintage at 2 for $10 that's solid daily drinker? [shrug.gif]
