TN: 2006 Van Zellers Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Not too impressed when opened the first bottle three years ago, I decided let this stay in the cellar. However, no real development like other basic level wines have shown (f.ex Crasto red).

Decanted 1.5 hr. Dark red with a lighter outer part. Typical Douro aroma with a mix of fruit, oak and minerals. Medium body. Taste showing berries (less than preferred), minerals, oak and tobacco. Powerful, but too much acid. Long aftertaste. 86 p

This was a really tough vintage for Douro wines. Most were average at best, with a few standouts. So it's no real surprise this hasn't aged as one would hope, then again, it is a "drink now" wine and not really meant to age.
