I too, am biased, since I live in Portugal.
But yes - wine is everywhere here, with prices from 1 euro to hundreds of euros. A fiver can get you any number of pretty fine bottles almost everywhere. And with a tenner in your pocket you're spoiled for choice.
But I think it's the range of available tastes that's most interesting. From the light Vinho Verdes, through respectable sparklings in all colours, wines with gravitas, up to 15% heavy hitters. We have rough "country reds", and elegant, refined reds you could take to the opera. Wines suitable for signing treaties, wines to drink when you're drunk, and wines suitable for a balmy summer picnic.
But, as I said, I'm biased.
