TN: 2004 Rio Bom Grande Reserva Douro -- Cuvee Mario Braga

Post by Andy Velebil »

Aged 30 months in French oak (neutral I think), bottled in June 2009, 30% Touriga Franca, 30% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz, 10% Tinta Amarela, and 10% Tinta Barroca. Black cherries, licorice exude the fresh and strong nose. The palate was pure classic Douro, the dark cherries, spices, noticeable minerality, and brooding tannins explode on the mouth and continue on with the long balanced finish where the minerality becomes even more prominent. This is no internationally styled Douro, this is what Douro wines are all about. A lovely wine that still has good a good many years ahead of it.
