TN: 2007 Quinta do Crasto Old Vines Reserva Douro Red

Post by David Spriggs »

Dark ruby color. Still appears to be young. The nose still shows some unresolved oak, but there is an interesting candied smokiness that seems more like grapes than barrels. Very smooth entry. Very mouth filling. Lots of cherry and chocolate and herbs (like thyme and marjoram). Nice complexity. This wine wants to be medium bodied, but it's not quite there yet... but give it some time. Medium+ finish. The wine is clearly still young. It's starting to evolve now, but I would ignore it for just a few more years and I think it will be much more special. The complexity is really front and center and it is currently more from the diversity of grape flavors than age. A potentially great Crasto Reserva! 93+ points.
