TN: 2011 Guru (Wine & Soul) Douro White

Post by David Spriggs »

On opening this was very lactic on the nose. Smelled like yogurt. On the palate to it was all acid and seashells. My guess was that it was far too young and unformed. Now 5 days later it's starting to drink well. I think of this wine like a great Chablis. It's not about sheer power and fruit, but an interplay between the fruit, acid and minerals. This wine is certainly showing that now. The color is quite pale and tinged with very slight green. The nose has an interesting smokey lemon. On the palate, there is some initial silkiness, but the acid comes right in and takes control. The minerality of the wine is superb. Medium+ length finish. So my take away is - nice wine, needs some more time, definitely demands food. So if you have this, don't open it now. 90+ points.
