TN: 2008 Quinta do Vale Meao Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted 4 hrs. Some sediments. Dark red with a purple touch. Fresh nice aroma of Douro, being combination of berries/oak/minerals, and actually some sweet flowers. Full body. Taste is full of berries, oak and at the beginning acceptable tannins. A bit raw/crude in style (like many of the 2008 vintage ports), which I dislike. Quite tough at the middle part and towards the end with more bitterness/acidity than preferred. Minerals becoming more noticeable towards the end. Medium length aftertaste. 89 pts.

Big difference between this and the 2009 version, good to know. Think I'll stick with the 2009.

I think that this (2008) and the 2006 are his weakest vintages. Otherwise, all other vintages have been spectacular!
