TN: 2012 Real Companhia Velha Quinta das Carvalhas Reserva Douro

Post by Andy Velebil »

Found this at a local retailer and since I've never had it picked one up. Decanted about 3 hours prior to sharing with friends. Medium bodied with enough dark fruit to keep it interesting. Some tar, light tannins, and just a faint touch of young oak. The finish dropped off a little but that is splitting hairs as this was a very nice package overall for the paltry sum of $19.99 (less if I would have bought 6 or more). This fills in, from a cost and performance angle, the gap that is now being seen with a number of Douro wine producers who tend to have nothing at this price point.

Had another bottle last night with a consistent TN. A nice well priced Douro.
