TN: 2004 Quinta do Mourao Rio Bom Grande Reserva Douro Red

Post by Rune EG »

I have been struggling with this Douro red which is so well appreciated by many FTLOP-members. Previous bottles have been rated in the 88 pts-range. September 2015 my family and I had a private visit to Mourao. Miguel Braga was as usual very kind and invited us to a lunch in the main house. Main dish was pork and he served this wine. My oldest daughter suggested that we should have this wine for our dinner on Christmas Eve as that also has pork as main course. So bottles were purchased at the quinta for this purpose. We did as planned for dinner on Christmas Eve, and I can say that this Douro red is a perfect match for pork dishes also in Norway.

Decanted 2.5 hrs. Dark red colour with light rim. Powerful aroma of berries and oak, and also some spices. Full body. Smooth dry style, powerful, fruity, dry tannins which are prefect with the food (pork), Medium length aftertaste. 92 pts.
