2002 Rio Bom Reserva Douro -- by Quinta do Mourao

Post by Andy Velebil »

Opened this the other night. The nose was super ripe grape jolly rancher, almost prune like. I was really worried this was going to be over the top ripe and alcoholic. I could not have been more wrong. The palate was nothing like the nose, youthful fruit that wasn't ripe. It was well balanced with lots of minerality, moderate tannins and lots of acidity to carry it for many more years, and a seamless transition into a long finish. This was just wonderful and a good lesson that something can taste totally different than it smells.
