TN: 2005 Alves de Sousa Pessoal Reserva Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Have over the years (incl at 2010 FTLOP Harvest Tour) tasted this wine three or four times, and end up with the same impression, namely that it is a style that do not appeal to me. I am a great fan of their Abandonado and the Quinta da Gaivosa Douro red, but not this one.

Decanted 2.5 hrs. Dark red colour. Aroma of berries, tobacco, minerals and some oak. Medium body. At start quite smooth, then some fruit, but thereafter the tannins are coming on in a heavy way which was too much. Towards the end it is fading away, resulting in medium to short length of aftertaste. 86 pts.
