TN: 2011 Quinta de Maritavora Grande Reserva Old Vines Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Lunch at DOC restaurant, Folgosa, Douro.
Maritavora is located far east in Douro Superior close to the Spanish border. Wine yard at abt 500 m altitude. Jorge Borges (Wine & Soul) is the winemaker. I know this quinta from a period abt 6-8 years ago when their Tinto was available here in Norway. That Tinto was a decent red wine. This Maritavora Grande Reserva was really a pleasant acquaintance and would like to try it again (with decanting time).

No decanting as it was decanted at the table. Deep burgundy style colour. Aroma dominated by berries. Full body. Elegant / power, quite complex, a “big” wine. Good balance acidity/sweetness. Long aftertaste. In view of no decanting it showed in an impressive way. 92 pts
