TN: 2008 Quinta da Sequeira Grande Reserva Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Quinta located in Douro Superior. Producing Douro wines and ports. I have previously posted a tasting note of 1982 Colheita. Normally a Douro red bottle has a weight of abt 1.3 kg incl contents. This Sequeira Grande Reserve weighed 1.8 kg incl contents (= abt 40 % more than normal!). Probably the heaviest Douro bottle I have had (although I can vaguely remember some heavy bottles from the early 2000s).

Decanted 2.5 hrs. Dark, dark red colour, nearly black. Aroma of berries, minerals and oak. Full body. Powerful, quite elegant. The minerals are coming on quite strongly, but the food is reducing the effect (which is good). This is definitely a “big” and demanding wine. The end was powerful, demanding, and quite dry. Normally I am not too keen of very dry Douro reds, but this one was different. Long aftertaste. Absolutely a wine to be accompanied with food. 92 pts.
