Purchased three bottles at the quinta when we visited Vale Meao as part of 2014 FTLOP Harvest Tour. Decided to keep them for a while in the cellar before testing the year 2012. Vale Meao Douro (top level) is in general one of the absolute favorites in our household. But this 2012 will not be (at least at this stage).
Decanted 4.5 hrs. Deep purple colour. Aroma at first dominated by berries and flowers, then “heavy” berries with touch of oak and minerals. Medium body. Taste is fruity all the way, fresh and nice. Some minerals towards the end. Good balance acidity/sweetness. Short to medium length aftertaste. This vintage of our favorite Vale Meao is lacking depth, but still holding on slightly better than many other 2012 Douro reds. 89 pts.
