Just today-$500 seems high.

Yes. I generally think of 1955s running in the 300s. Checking wine-searcher, non-pro, today, you can get Taylor for $349 and Cockburn for $299.

18 months ago you would have had a hard time paying more than $300-$350 for a 1955 with excellent provenance, short of Nacional. But after I did a search on Wine Searcher Pro, it's clear that the birth year phenomenon is kicking in and the prices have jumped substantially. There's too many people who will be in the market for 1955 ports for their 60th birthday. It may go back down next year, but it could be that your window is closed and you'll have to pay more.

That is high. But I'm usually prepared to pay a premium to RWC given their provenance is usually superb and there are a lot of crappy old bottles being peddled online these days.
