This Dalva VP had about 30 hours in the decanter to show its best. Tasted regularly over about 72 hours.
Nose: dark, dark and dark. Dark chocolate and dark red fruit, with perhaps some ground graphite or other dark mineral component.
Palate: easily enjoyable and quite fruity at the moment. The front to mid palate is wonderfully fruity, sporting attractive blueberry and blackberry favors, as well as a long finish where the dark dark chocolate and the fruit meet. The finish is still sporting a lot of grip and freshness, focusing on the chocolate and perhaps a fruitier dark coffee.
This doesn't quite have the depth and stuffing you'd want to see from one of the top houses for a truly long ager in a top year, but this seems like a perfect 20-30 year VP that we'll hopefully think is in the perfect spot when we do a horizontal in 2031. Even now, with extended decant, this is very drinkable.
