2009 Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo Late Bottled Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Purchased from WTSO.com as a cellar defender. Opened by my wife for a company gathering; I'm tasting the leftovers at about D+20. (Half a bottle left over??? Who are these people???)

2009 Quinta Nova de Nossa LBV
no bottling date on the bottle

Color: Deep purple/red, opaque to about 1" from the rim.

Nose: Grapey and juicy. Blackberries, boysenberries, and maybe some blueberries. Lots of brambles. Rich and fragrant.

Palate: Very juicy, very rich. Hints at a bitter edge that never really appears. Tannins are overwhelmed by the fruit until later, when they appear long enough to prove the structure is there. This feels like an unfiltered LBV, but I suspect it is filtered (no sediment at all). (The label doesn't say.) If filtered, it was done lightly. This feels like it could age easily for 15-20 years. Very easy to drink - dangerous in that respect. It's only "medium" complex, though, which holds the score in check.

Finish: Tannic grip, juicy berries, then eventually some grape stem. Medium long.

Score: 92 points. Very nice. A fantastic daily drinker and something that would impress guests when you don't want to open a VP.
