2000 Niepoort Secundum Vintage Port

Post by John M. »

Opened over Thanksgiving---from a 375mm Bottle. Decanted 9 hours (should be more). Bottle and cork were perfect. Deep red rim--darker deep purplish-red center. Tight nose--brambles with hint of dry rub spices. Very dry, tannic to the nth degree so wait for it. Hints of leather, strawberry and that bramble/rhubarb typical to Niepoort, still getting the dry rub spices--at other times I got other berry flavors, yet dry. Moderate viscosity, despite the tannins, nice to taste over half an hour and enjoy the flavors, they seem subtly different each sip. Feels structured but this is not an early drinker given the tannic grip. Score below reflects its state now---but this could be much better in years to come.
